What is the Camp Counselor USA Program?
Camp Counselor USA is a cultural exchange experience for students, graduates, youth leaders and other applicants who enjoy working with children. Participants spend the U.S. summer living and working at an American summer camp, becoming part of an international community while helping create a safe, positive and memorable experience for campers.
As a Camp Counselor, you may supervise campers, lead games and group activities, teach sports or creative skills, support camper wellbeing and encourage teamwork and confidence. Placements may include traditional, sports, adventure, performing arts, STEM or special-needs camps, depending on your experience, abilities and the opportunities available.

Many camp placements provide a stipend, on-site accommodation and meals. However, placement conditions, duties, stipend, insurance coverage, program dates, post-camp travel eligibility and final admission vary and remain subject to the camp, sponsor and relevant U.S. government requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
- At least 18 years old at the beginning of the program.
- Sufficient English ability to communicate confidently with campers, counselors and camp staff.
- A genuine interest in working with children and creating a safe, positive environment.
- Enthusiastic, responsible, adaptable and open-minded.
- Able to participate in camp activities and satisfy applicable health and safety requirements.
- Previous experience with children is highly valued, including teaching, coaching, babysitting, scouting, tutoring, volunteering or youth activities.
- Skills in sports, swimming, arts, music, drama, dance, outdoor activities, lifeguarding, first aid, technology or similar areas can strengthen the application.
