What is the Work and Travel USA?
Work and Travel USA is a BridgeUSA cultural exchange program created for full-time university students who want to spend their summer vacation living and working in the United States.
Participants work in approved seasonal positions, interact with American colleagues and communities, develop their English and professional skills, and experience everyday life in the United States. After successfully completing their work commitment, participants may use the permitted post-program period to travel and explore the country.
As the official CIEE Work and Travel USA representative in Egypt, EXEGYPT guides applicants through the complete local journey—from registration and eligibility screening to English assessment, interviews, employer placement, visa preparation, pre-departure orientation, travel, and program completion.
Final admission, employer placement, J-1 sponsorship, and visa issuance remain subject to CIEE, employer, sponsor, and U.S. government requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
- Enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited university or higher-education institution.
- At least 18 years old at the beginning of the program.
- Successfully completed at least one university semester.
- Sufficient English ability to communicate confidently at work and in daily life.
- Available to work during the official university summer vacation.
- Able to return to Egypt before university studies resume.
- Valid passport covering the application, program, and travel periods.
- Able to satisfy EXEGYPT, CIEE, employer, and U.S. visa requirements.
- Final-year students, previous J-1 participants, and applicants with complex travel or visa histories may require individual eligibility review.

1. Apply and Receive Your Applicant ID
Complete the EXEGYPT registration form. Our system creates your unique Applicant ID, records your application, and sends your application confirmation automatically.

Complete Eligibility, English and Interview Stages
EXEGYPT reviews your student status, age, availability, and general eligibility. Eligible applicants then complete the English assessment and EXEGYPT interview.

Sign Your Contract and Join CIEE
Applicants who pass the required stages complete their EXEGYPT agreement and initial payment before continuing through the CIEE Beacon application process.

Secure Your U.S. Placement
Continue through the assigned Hiring or Connect route, complete employer interviews where required, and obtain an approved seasonal U.S. job placement.

Prepare Your Visa and Departure
After the necessary sponsor approvals, complete the DS-2019, SEVIS, DS-160, embassy appointment, visa interview, orientation, and final travel-preparation stages.

Arrive in the United States, complete your sponsor check-in, begin your approved job, participate in cultural activities, travel after your work period, and return home as an EXEGYPT alumnus.

No. Employment is an important part of the program, but Summer Work Travel is primarily a cultural exchange experience. Participants are expected to interact with Americans, explore their local communities, participate in cultural activities, and share Egyptian culture during their stay.

Be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited university or post-secondary institution outside the United States.
Be actively pursuing a degree or another eligible full-time course of study.
Have completed at least one academic semester.
Have sufficient English ability to work and communicate in an English-speaking environment.

Yes. Summer Work Travel is intended for students who are actively enrolled in and pursuing a full-time course of study at an accredited post-secondary institution outside the United States. Graduates who are no longer enrolled may need to consider a different J-1 category, such as an Intern or Trainee program.
You must be able to communicate effectively in English at work and in everyday life. Your English does not have to be perfect, but you should be able to understand instructions, answer questions, interact with customers or colleagues, and handle normal situations independently.
All applicants complete an English assessment before final acceptance. English proficiency is a formal Summer Work Travel eligibility requirement.
Previous experience is helpful but is not required for every position. Many Summer Work Travel opportunities are entry-level seasonal jobs. Employers usually focus on your English, attitude, reliability, availability, relevant skills, and willingness to work.

Refund eligibility depends on when the cancellation occurs, why it occurs, which services have already been completed, and which payments have already been transferred to employers, sponsors, insurers, government authorities, or other service providers.
The EXEGYPT cancellation and refund policy must be read and accepted before payment. A visa refusal does not automatically mean that every payment is refundable.
